I have been circling around different ideas for work for over a year now. The reason being is because I miss my kids (first and foremost) and I feel like I have lost myself over the past few years. I have put my heart and soul into my current career to get where I am at. 10 years, location change, 7 raises, and 7 different OFFICIAL positions later…I still feel incomplete. Just so you have a rundown of how much heart and soul I put into my current career, here is a breakdown of my positions in order over the last 10 years:
- Part-time Receptionist
- Full-time Receptionist/Part-time Office Clerk
- Full-time Office Clerk
- (Location Change)
- Accounts Payable
- Billing and Titling Specialist
- Accounting Assistant
- Accounting/Office Manager
So, as you can see, I have moved up the ladder within the company fairly quickly and have always wanted to be here. Now I’m here, I want a change. I have watched a few videos about people making changes in their lives because whatever they were doing ‘didn’t serve them anymore’. I thought to myself, “Well, I love my job. I love the people I work with. I like being the go-to person that everyone needs.” While this is still true, when I started this journey, I was single (just meeting my husband) with no kids and lived 5 minutes away from work right in town. After years of my husband and I being together (and 2 kids later) we want a different life for our family. We moved almost an hour north from our jobs, bought 10 acres, a camper, started 2 businesses and want to homeschool our kids. I never thought my life would come to this but I have been told numerous times that it’s okay to pivot.
Aren’t we all afraid to just “pivot”? There is SO much responsibly and fear of just making a change. We all have been taught the reality of the financial security when we get into our adult years. Nobody wants to feel like they are heading into debt.
The fear and the panic that sets in when you ask yourself, “How am I going to pay my bills?”
When you get that late payment reminder, ending up paying more in interest than the principal payment, forgetting that you are set to paperless invoices, having an asset repossessed, having no choice for a bank to run your credit for something that you can’t afford…..we ALL have been there in some way or another. Well, I am here to tell you, it’s possible!
Possible, but HARD! Everyone has the choice to make their life the way they want – you just have to put in the work. Figure out what you want to do and work on it at any given time when you have a free moment. If you really want it, if you are really destined for it, you will make that accomplishment and get it done. Don’t worry about your timeline and celebrate the small wins everyday.
Even if it doesn’t feel like progress, I promise you that it is!
If you look at any successful person in the business/aspect/way of life that you want to pursue, they all start out the same. They have a vision, found a passion, surround themselves with people who have the same interests, they ask for help/advice when needed and they start! Whatever is it, it does not have to be perfect. It doesn’t necessarily have to be planned accordingly. (although, it does help!) Having the passion and the belief in what you are doing is all you need to keep going.
JUST START!
Start that new way of life, start that new career change, start that new passion that you have found, and I promise you will grow no matter what age/stage of life you are in!
